IFTA/IRP Workshop May 13 in Medicine Hat

Sandy Johnson of North Star Fleet Solutions will present a workshop in Medicine Hat on May 13 on the “The Hidden Cost of Trip Permits,” with strategies to help multi-jurisdictional truck fleets manage vehicle tax, fuel tax, and licensing.

Hosted by the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA), the workshop is part of the AMTA’s regional safety meeting, starting 6 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Lodge (1051 Ross Glen Dr. S.E., Medicine Hat).

Sandy’s presentation will focus on International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), International Registration Plan (IRP), and vehicle sales tax requirements for fleets, including:

  • When to use single trip permits and when to use prorated licensing.
  • How to determine whether you owe sales tax on trailers, parts, and repairs to other jurisdictions.
  • How to calculate an accurate chargeback rate to recover fees and sales tax from customers.

“This workshop will show fleets how to improve compliance and reduce the risk of an audit, fines, and other penalties,” Sandy says. “It’s a chance to ask questions about the permitting process, what happens during an IFTA/IRP audit, and how to get started managing vehicle tax and licensing.”

The workshop is free, but AMTA charges $20 for dinner. To register, please call 780-395-6140 or email lindsayw1@amta.ca.
